2025 Recipients

This year, 20 students received scholarships of $3,500, and one student was honored with the Richard Metzler Opportunity Scholarship for $7,500—awarded to a student who demonstrated outstanding achievement in education, leadership, or civic responsibility despite adversity or lack of opportunity. Scholarship funds can be used for tuition, textbooks, or other qualified educational expenses.  

We continued building on last year’s momentum by continuing to offer expanded eligibility open to vocational, non-traditional, and continuing students—and once again, the response was incredible. We received a record-breaking number of applications from students pursuing a wide range of educational paths.

Richard Metzler Opportunity Scholarship Recipient

The 2025 Richard Metzler Scholarship recipient is Madison Chimenti from Eugene. This fall, Madison will begin pursuing a bachelor's degree in psychology at Bard College.

This scholarship honors the longtime SELCO Board Member who served 30+ years as a director and supervisor of special education in Springfield Public Schools.
