SELCO Team Members Help Families Move

SELCO Steps Up Community Giving Volunteering

For more than five decades, ShelterCare has been a cornerstone of support in Eugene.

Founded in 1970 as Eugene Emergency Housing, the organization began as a modest shelter for four unhoused families. Today, ShelterCare’s reach spans far wider—offering permanent housing, short-term housing, a medical recuperation facility, and even an in-house Behavioral Health Center serving families throughout Lane County.

Each year, SELCO joins ShelterCare to assemble move-in kits for families and individuals transitioning into housing. What begins as a room full of supplies is quickly transformed into a collective act of care. Together, SELCO team members fill large plastic totes with essential household items. Everything from pots and pans to dishes and glass cups fill the totes, ensuring the individual or family receiving these items can begin their next chapter with comfort.

What makes this experience memorable isn’t just the teamwork; it’s the heart behind it. Once the totes have been double checked and everything is packed, our team members close out the day by writing personalized notes for each kit.

Partnerships like this one highlight how meaningful change begins with simples acts of kindness. By stepping up together, SELCO teammates help make new beginnings possible for families across our community.
