Applying for a SELCO Scholarship

Eligibility requirements

Successful applicants must:

  • Plan to attend a vocational school or an accredited two- or four-year college/university.
  • Be a SELCO member or the immediate family member of a SELCO member (SELCO employees and their immediate family are not eligible).
  • Have a GED or cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Provide an unofficial transcript/GED certificate.
  • Have not previously received a SELCO scholarship.

You’re looking ahead—and so are we, which is reflected in our two short-essay questions:

  • Why are you pursuing this educational path, and where do you hope it will take you?
  • How have your non-academic and life experiences set you up for future success?

Lane County students who want to be considered for the Richard Metzler Opportunity Scholarship will be asked to provide additional information in their short-essay responses (please see “Richard Metzler Opportunity Scholarship” section below).

Selection process & timeline

  • Each application is reviewed by a minimum of two members of the Scholarship Selection Panel.
  • No identifiable information (name, address, school, etc.) is included on the Selection Panel’s review materials.
  • Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 6.

The Richard Metzler Opportunity Scholarship

If you’re a student in Lane County and want to be considered for the $7,500 Richard Metzler Opportunity Scholarship, we’ll also ask you to use your short-essay space to share how you’ve achieved excellence in education, leadership, or civic responsibility despite adversity or lack of resources.

Please note: Students who wish to be considered for the Richard Metzler Opportunity Scholarship will also be considered for the other SELCO Scholarships.

The scholarship was important in helping me afford my tuition at Lane Community College. I have always wanted a career that helps people, makes them smile and be happy. Dental hygiene does just that. I am so thankful that with SELCO’s generosity and support, I am on my way to achieving this dream.
