SELCO Team Member Steve Liu Finds Purpose in Service

SELCO Steps Up Volunteering

When Steve Liu isn’t at his computer desk, he’s out in the field—quite literally—putting his volunteer time off to work through the Lane County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team.

Guided by a deep belief in service, Liu volunteers alongside a team dedicated to helping neighbors in moments of need. In the past two years, he has volunteered nearly 600 hours annually, responding to emergency calls, attending regular training, and spending three summer days each year providing first aid support at the Lane County Fair.

“It’s about being ready for anything,” Liu said. “We plan, but we also adapt to what happens in real time.”

At the heart of Liu’s volunteer work is a deep belief in service. “That’s one of my core values,” he said. “This is an opportunity for me to use my skills to serve my community.” Surrounded by a dedicated team, Steve finds his volunteer work as meaningful as it is rewarding, proof that giving back can be one of the most fulfilling ways to spend time.

Projects like Liu’s highlight how SELCO employees bring their skills and compassion into the communities we serve. Our volunteer program is designed to support commitment, giving team members the flexibility and encouragement to step into roles they're passionate about. And that support goes beyond offering hours—it’s woven into the way we show up for one another. Our workplace culture treats service not as an extra bit of work, but as something worth protecting. When our team members give their time to great causes, we make sure they never have to choose between supporting their community and succeeding in their own roles at SELCO.
