Fraudsters Impersonating Credit Union Representatives by Phone and Text

Digital rendering of a credit card

What’s happening

We’ve heard from a small number of SELCO members who have received automated fraud calls with caller ID indicating the caller is SELCO.

  • Members are asked to verify a text code sent in the moment, then for their 4-digit card PIN.
  • The callers appear to have at least the last 4 of the member's card number.
  • The callers then attempt to add the cards to Apple Wallet to make fraudulent purchases.

Please remember

SELCO does not make outbound calls from our 800 number, and we won't ask for your:

  • Personal Identification Number (PIN)
  • Full SSN (though we may ask for it when you call us)
  • Three-digit code on the back of your card

If you’re ever unsure you’re speaking with a SELCO representative, hang up and call us directly at 800-445-4483.

Ways to protect yourself

Scammers aren’t going anywhere, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways for you to protect your information.

Sign up for fraud alerts

If suspicious card activity is identified, you’ll receive a text with the transaction details. If it wasn’t you, the transaction may be declined or your card blocked (or both) to protect your account. To sign up for fraud alerts:

  1. Log in to online banking.
  2. Select “SMS Fraud Alerts” from the “Services” drop-down menu.

Download Card Manager

A free mobile app that lets you create transaction alerts, manage spending, and even lock your card when you’re not using it. Download Card Manager to your phone or tablet through the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Review your accounts regularly

If you see an unauthorized card transaction on your account, call us right away—day or night—at 800-445-4483 so we can protect your account from further unauthorized activity. If it’s outside regular business hours, we’ll connect you with the Visa Fraud Center.
