Beware Card Fraud by Phone

SELCO has recently learned that a small number of our members have been receiving fraudulent calls that appear to come from SELCO’s 800 number.

The caller poses as a SELCO employee and claims that the member’s card may have been compromised, then asks for confidential information to “verify their identity.” The caller then uses that information, in connection with the member’s compromised card number, to conduct fraudulent transactions.

If you receive a call from someone purporting to be a SELCO employee, please keep in mind that SELCO employees:

  • Do not have access to member PINs.
  • Will never ask you for your PIN or other confidential information.
  • Will never request a password or online banking login information.

If you receive a call that you feel might not be legitimate, please hang up and contact us directly using a number you have independently verified. If you believe your credit card, debit card, or card information may have been compromised, please call us right away, day or night, at 800-445-4483 so your card can be blocked. If it’s outside regular business hours, we’ll connect you with the Visa Fraud Center. To get a replacement card, contact us during business hours or stop by any branch to get a new card on the spot.

SELCO also offers a variety of resources to help you monitor your account for unusual activity, including:

  • Online banking or our mobile banking app, through which you can regularly view your daily activity and monthly statements for transactions you don’t recognize.
  • The SELCO Card Manager app, allowing you to manage spending and set card alerts. Opting-in to allow fraud text alerts for card activity. To opt in, log in to online banking, click “Services” on the top ribbon, select “SMS Fraud Alerts,” then follow the instructions.
  • “Notify Me,” a service that alerts you whenever your account is accessed via online or mobile banking. Notify Me is accessible through the “My Profile” section of online banking.

If you ever have any doubt or concern over who you speak with on the phone, don’t hesitate to call us from a verified number. We’re here to help.
