As a credit union founded by teachers, we understand the critical role education plays in the strength of our community. That’s why we award scholarships each year to 20 exceptional high school seniors continuing their education.

To celebrate the 2021 scholarship recipients, we are hosting a virtual ceremony via Instagram Stories. Tune in to the ceremony by following SELCO on Instagram (@selcoccu) on Friday, May 14 at 2pm. The ceremony will be saved to our Instagram Story Highlights after they’re published.

If you are planning to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university, you may be eligible for a $2,500 SELCO Scholarship to help with tuition and other educational expenses.

The next application period will open in January 2022.

The Richard Metzler Opportunity Scholarship ($5,000)

Awarded to a graduating senior who, despite adversity or lack of opportunity, has demonstrated excellence in education, leadership, or civic responsibility.

This scholarship is in honor of Richard Metzler, who recently retired from the SELCO board after four decades and who served more than 30 years as a director and supervisor of special education in Springfield Public Schools.

To be considered for The Richard Metzler Opportunity Scholarship, applicants must be residents of Lane County and meet the SELCO Scholarship eligibility requirements. No separate application or materials are required.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be:

  • A SELCO member or the immediate family member of a SELCO member (SELCO employees and their immediate family members are not eligible).
  • A graduating senior from a four-year accredited high school with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Planning to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university.

Selection Process

The SELCO Scholarship Committee reviews all applications. In the event of closely qualified applicants, the committee may also request interviews. Recipients will be announced and notified by mail.

Award Distribution

Funds will be released to scholarship recipients by the end of June.

If you have questions or need additional information, email [email protected] or call 541-686-5382. We are available Monday–Friday from 8:30am–5:00pm PT.
